Wow Shelley, you were so brave to put yourself out there like that at only 17! And to share this experience now is brilliant with all the stress in our modern world, it is nice to hear this story and the song again. I appreciate the 17 year old you and today’s you for sharing this.
Thanks for helping to stir up some long-ago memories… Isn't it precious how juniors or seniors in high school have the psychological wherewithal to try to reinvent themselves or temporarily step out of character? I’m glad that I did that also as a junior, in Feb. 1979, teaming up with a new friend to play a guitar duet at our high school talent show in Clovis, California. We played a rendition of Cat Stevens's song, "Where Do The Children Play?" My friend sang while I danced around the fretboard on my mom’s Antonio Hernandez classical guitar, probably playing solo lines over his singing in places when I should have held back and just played between his phrases. I haven’t seen or talked to my friend since then.
I remember it like it was yesterday. The audience was enthralled by the sweet innocence and lovely voice. This brought back such a wonderful memory and maybe my eyes leaked a bit!

Thanks for a fun read!
I will continue to read Bob’s column but you Shelly make me smile with warm fuzzies. And of course the rousing applause was for you! 💚💚💚
