At exactly the time this joyous and jubilant photo was taken, a community in Texas was watching families, their 8-year-old girls, their homes and their lives being washed down the Guadalupe River.
Every person in this photo was aware of what was happening. I was watching the news at the same time. If I knew, they knew.
Of course, they knew.
None of them cared.
Because they had just signed a bill that would make them and all their friends richer. At the expense of all of us. Including the people of Texas who were watching their children and their homes and their livelihoods be completely destroyed.
Trump eliminated hundreds of people from the National Weather Service because it was a waste of money. Seems like the guy whose job it was to notify communities of imminent risk was actually valuable. But, dang. Trump got rid of him.
Every jubilant face in the photo above gives no care or thought for our well-being or safety.
If they can benefit from our loss? Jubilance.
I thought they all just hated California.
But today, after over 100 people, including 28 little girls, have died in a tragedy that deserved way more attention than it got from the people in this disgusting photo, it turns out, they have contempt for all of us.
.
My nephew went to work at 4:30 am that night near the river and ended up heroically saving a family whose house was washed off its foundation and flooded by rising waters - waking them up and carrying kids through waist deep water to safety. It was a fluke that he woke up early and decided to get an early start on the day. 100 people have died and many more have lost their homes and been traumatized. Our leaders in Washington are full of excuses.
It is outrageously horrible.
