At exactly the time this joyous and jubilant photo was taken, a community in Texas was watching families, their 8-year-old girls, their homes and their lives being washed down the Guadalupe River.
My nephew went to work at 4:30 am that night near the river and ended up heroically saving a family whose house was washed off its foundation and flooded by rising waters - waking them up and carrying kids through waist deep water to safety. It was a fluke that he woke up early and decided to get an early start on the day. 100 people have died and many more have lost their homes and been traumatized. Our leaders in Washington are full of excuses.
It is all so tragic, I only hope there can be more awareness throughout our country of what is happening, and that we all realize we need to stand together for what is right and good.
Tx u for this. we r especially nervous about this. our beloved and only granddaughter is at a 2 week camp at Tahoe. 2nd year and she loves it. just like those kids in Texas. Heartbreaking but u have to let kids grow up and do independent things. the picture makes my blood run cold. As for the big ugly bill we have to wait and c. cleverly the most draconian parts of it don't take effect until after the midterms. i read where 40% of speaker Johnson's district is on Medicaid. we'll c if this does what many says it will, all for the rich none for the needy. i sadly feel this has to go into effect, then we will know. nothing to stop it anyway with the house, senate and supreme court in his pocket for now. your column provoked great thought and after i read it and responded i subscribed. write on, friend.

Sharla, amazing that your nephew was able be in the right place at the right time. What an act of courage. If he runs for Congress, I'll vote for him.
awsome. a true hero in a time when many are needed
It is outrageously horrible.
Heartbreaking and infuriating.
